Sulfur‑boosting agents are widely used in industries such as steelmaking, foundry work, abrasive manufacturing, coatings, metallurgy, and mechanical machining. In the foundry sector, these agents are primarily employed to adjust the sulfur content of molten iron, thereby meeting the specific sulfur‑content requirements of castings.

       Sulfurization technology

Sulfur‑boosting agents are typically used to increase the sulfur content in gray cast iron or molten steel. In gray cast iron, excessively low sulfur levels are detrimental: they weaken the inoculation effect, degrade graphite morphology, and impair machinability. The optimal range is 0.07%–0.12%; within this interval, sulfur shortens graphite length, blunts graphite tips, and induces more curved graphite shapes, thereby enhancing mechanical properties. When the sulfur content falls below 0.05%, sulfur‑boosting treatment is essential.

According to metallographic analysis, sulfur in molten iron exists in a special form; therefore, when increasing sulfur content, a dedicated sulfur‑boosting agent must be used. Under no circumstances should sulfur powder or other sulfur‑containing ores be employed, as this would severely compromise the internal microstructure of the casting.

       Method of Using Sulfur-Boosting Agent

During electric furnace production, after adding a small amount of iron to the furnace, the sulfur‑boosting agent—granulated to 8–25 mm in size—is charged into the furnace according to the required sulfur content. Iron is then added to press the sulfur‑boosting agent down, and melting can proceed. The absorption rate exceeds 99%.

       Advantages of sulfurizing agents

Our company’s high‑efficiency sulfur‑boosting agent, specially formulated for gray cast iron, is easy to use, safe and reliable, produces minimal impurities, and boasts a high absorption rate of over 95%. Adding an appropriate amount of sulfur to gray cast iron can enhance machinability, improve inoculation effectiveness, and refine graphite morphology. Since sulfur shortens graphite length, blunts graphite ends, and promotes more curved graphite shapes, sulfur addition also improves the mechanical properties of gray cast iron components. In gray cast iron, sulfur content within the range of 0.08% to 0.12% is beneficial.

Ton bags of iron sulfide are available in customizable particle sizes. Standard: Q/LYZT001-2013; Appearance: yellow-brown with a metallic luster.

It is used in steelmaking to add sulfur, thereby improving machinability, inoculation effectiveness, and graphite morphology, and enhancing the mechanical properties of gray cast iron components.
